To do this, we enter the OSD menu and select “Reset all” on the System. Once this is done, first of all, you should reset any manual settings you have made to your monitor. It seems trivial, but dirt or fingerprints on the surface where we will place our probe could affect the profiling. In the same way we did for the calibration performed using the i1Profiler software (which you can read HERE), before using Palette Master Element you should perform some preliminary operations on your computer.įirst, let’s clean the monitor. Now that we know the advantages of Palette Master Element, let’s now see how best to use it to calibrate and profile our BenQ monitor. The advantage of the hardware calibration is that it’s more stable in time and that you will have almost no limits in correcting the tones and color shades thanks to the higher number of levels per color manageable by the 14 (or 16) bit 3D LUT. The hardware calibration requires that the correction curves (the output of the calibration software used) are applied to the LUT (Look Up Table) inside the monitor itself instead of to the video card as in the so-called software calibration. Palette Master Element, unlike other software (such as the same iProfiler or the so loved Displa圜AL) allows us to take advantage of one of the real plus of our BenQ SW series monitor: the hardware calibration. This can assist in keeping any design fluent while maintaining common items. If once purchased the hardware for the calibration (the probe) we are bound to it (for this reason you should buy immediately the right one, and I therefore recommend X-Rite i1Display Pro that you find reviewed HERE), on the software we have much more flexibility, and this is just a good thing. It's possible to have Master Page B which has Master Page A applied to it. In your scenario, you could place the text on the master page on Layer 2, and then place backgrounds on Layer 1 in the document pages.Īn important note is that you can apply master pages to other master pages. So, while master pages are always seen as the bottom of the object stack, layers take precedence and will allow you to stack things above a document page if you place objects on higher layers. The cyan rectangle is on layer 1 on my document page. The yellow rectangle is on layer 1 on the master page. The magenta rectangle is on Layer 2 on my Master Page. Thus, if a bulb is added to a conventional bow at the proper position, the bulb trough coincides with the crest of the bow wave, and the two cancel out, reducing the vessel's wake. A bulb alone forces the water to flow up and over it forming a trough. The effect of the bulbous bow can be explained using the concept of destructive interference of waves: Ī conventionally shaped bow causes a bow wave. Waterline and region of cancelled waves. The bulb design is optimised for the vessel's operating speed. The waterline length is longer than about 15 metres (49 ft).Vessels of lower mass (less than 4,000 dwt) and those that operate at slower speeds (less than 12 kts) have a reduced benefit from bulbous bows, because of the eddies that occur in those cases examples include tugboats, powerboats, sailing vessels, and small yachts.īulbous bows have been found to be most effective when used on vessels that meet the following conditions: supertankers) or a high service speed (e.g. Vessels with high kinetic energy, which is proportional to mass and the square of the velocity, benefit from having a bulbous bow that is designed for their operating speed this includes vessels with high mass (e.g. A bulbous bow also increases the buoyancy of the forward part and hence reduces the pitching of the ship to a small degree. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have twelve to fifteen percent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels without them. The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Ī bulbous bow is a protruding bulb at the bow (or front) of a ship just below the waterline. Each square inch (or square centimeter) of the boat that is underwater has water pressure pushing it upward, and this combined pressure floats the boat.įor more information, check out the links on the next page.A "ram" bulbous bow curves upwards from the bottom, and has a "knuckle" if the top is higher than the juncture with the hull-the through-tunnels in the side are bow thrusters. It is this upward water pressure pushing on the bottom of the boat that is causing the boat to float. This just happens to exactly equal the weight of the cubic foot or cubic meter of water that is displaced! ![]() So if the box is 1 foot square and it is submerged 1 foot, the bottom of the box is being pushed up by a water pressure of (12 inches * 12 inches * 0.44 psi) 62 pounds (if the box is 1 meter square and submerged 1 meter deep, the upward force is 9,800 newtons). What this means is that the bottom of the box has an upward force being applied to it by that pressure. If you were to submerge the box 1 foot into the water, the gauge would read 0.44 psi (if you submerged it 1 meter, it would read 9,800 Pa). If you were to submerge a box with a pressure gauge attached (as shown in this picture) into water, then the pressure gauge would measure the pressure of the water at the submerged depth: Similarly, a 1-meter-high column of water exerts 9,800 pascals (Pa). That means that a 1-foot-high column of water exerts 0.44 pounds per square inch (psi). If you take a column of water 1 inch square and 1 foot tall, it weighs about 0.44 pounds depending on the temperature of the water (if you take a column of water 1 cm square by 1 meter tall, it weights about 100 grams). How do the water molecules know when 1,000 pounds of them have gotten out of the way? It turns out that the actual act of floating has to do with pressure rather than weight. The next question to ask involves floating itself. So very little of the boat actually has to submerge into the water before it has displaced the weight of the boat. The average density of a boat - the combination of the steel and the air - is very light compared to the average density of water. The reason it is so easy is that a good portion of the interior of any boat is air (unlike a cube of steel, which is solid steel throughout). It is not very hard to shape a boat in such a way that the weight of the boat has been displaced before the boat is completely underwater. Provided that the boat displaces 1,000 pounds of water before the whole thing is submerged, the boat floats. So if a boat weighs 1,000 pounds (or kilograms), it will sink into the water until it has displaced 1,000 pounds (or kilograms) of water. The standard definition of floating was first recorded by Archimedes and goes something like this: An object in a fluid experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. ![]() ![]() ![]() #11469: Negative margin in animations (.animate).#11415: Silently ignore negative CSS values where they are illegal.#10848: Animation toggling loses state tracking in certain atomic edge cases.#10006: method show is not working as expected in all browsers when called for document fragment.#3838: $(document).height() incorrect in IE6.lock() on a $.Callbacks object breaks its fired() status #11309: hexadecimal-formatted data-* attributes parsed incorrectly.#11119: The curCSS function only need 2 arguments.#10858: css.js regular expressions are incomplete.#10754: have jQuery.swap return the return of the callback instead of just executing it.#10639: outerWidth(true) and css(‘margin’) returning % instead of px in Webkit.#10466: jQuery.param() mistakes wrapped primitives for deep objects.#10931: Unit tests shouldn’t require internet access.#10902: ability to test a built version of jQuery in unit tests.#10901: have unit tests fail if the tester is running from file:// or doesn’t have PHP.#10693: generalize the “test something in an iframe” code in unit tests.#10692: Configure the jshint options to more accurately match the style guide.#11316: Consider looking through valHooks by element type first, then by nodeName instead of the other way around.#10870: Incorrect behaviour of $.removeAttr(“selected”).#10828: attr(“coords”) returns undefined in IE7.#5571: Allow chaining when passing undefined to any setter in jQuery. ![]() ![]() #11426: jQuery.ajax() always fails when requesting JPG images in IE.#11264: evalScript() uses defaults set by ajaxSetup().#10978: jQuery.param() should allow non-native constructed objects as property values. Here’s the change log of the 1.7.2 release. This way the removal is automated and you won’t need anyone to go manually turn off the Finder Extension. Just disable (ignore) the respective Finder Extension at the beginning of your uninstall script. Pluginkit -e use -i Īs far as disabling Finder Extensions, this is going to be useful when writing an uninstall script. #sleep 5 seconds to ensure Box Drive is running So you may want to ultimately run something like this for your post-install: #!/bin/bash I’ve found that adding a bit of a pause is a safe bet to make sure it works every time. Now especially when following up an installation with a script, it is a good idea to do some testing on the timing. That way, directly after Box Drive is installed from Self Service, I know that the Finder Extension is going to load. So I can write up a script like the one above to enable the extension and include it in the install policy to run after. As stated before, I don’t want to have to logout and log back in for it to enable. For example, in my Box Drive install policy, I want to make sure that Box Drive’s Finder Sync extension enables directly after Box Drive installs. Where I find these commands most helpful is in a Jamf Pro policy for installing or uninstalling the parent app. I suppose you could just manually run the script at various times, but that would defeat the purpose since it’s just as easy (or easier) to actually go into System Prefs and enable/disable the extension. Now, you may be wondering how this can be useful for you. If I wanted to enable this particular Finder extension, I would enter this: pluginkit -e use -i Īnd if I wanted to disable it, I’d run this: pluginkit -e ignore -i You can ignore the version number the important thing is the identifier. For example, if I’m looking for items that contain box, I’d run: pluginkit -m | grep "box"Īnd I get the result: () It’s usually easy enough to navigate this list manually, but if you want to tailor items to your specific needs, you can always use grep. What you’re looking for is the name of the developer or app name of whatever respective Finder Extension you’re trying to control. Now, you’re going to get a ton of com.apple entries that you shouldn’t touch and likely don’t care about. In order to get a list of Finder Extensions on your Mac, run this through Terminal: pluginkit -m So here’s a way you can enable or disable any app’s Finder Extension from the command line. But there are a number of applications that just expect you to manually turn on or off their Finder Extensions. Not to pick on Box, as their newest iteration of their sync client, Box Drive, does include a full uninstall script. You would think this could be scripted somehow so it doesn’t have to be manually removed… □ ![]() Even Box has instructions for manually disabling the Box Sync Finder Extension in order to uninstall Box Sync completely in the instructions on their website: Unfortunately, the Finder Extension hangs around and even sometimes can prevent you from trashing it. Similarly, when you attempt to uninstall Box Sync, you’d think you could just quit it and throw the application in the trash. As you might imagine, that’s really annoying to do during every new employee setup. Unfortunately, this means if I am setting up someone’s computer for them and I want to introduce them to Box Sync, I have to logout and log back in so Box Sync can load the Finder Extension. It loads on every other subsequent launch… just not on the initial one. What it doesn’t do on its initial launch is enable its Finder Extension, and show all of the badges and menus. When I install Box Sync for the first time and sign in, it connects to the cloud and displays my files in the Finder, as it should. You can find a list of the Finder Extensions installed on your Mac in System Preferences > Extensions.Ī common problem for administrators like me, however, is that these extensions may not always play nice when trying to automate a task. For example, the institution I work at utilizes Box Sync for file syncing. These extensions provide all sorts of additional functionality, from displaying badge icons to reflecting a file or folder’s sync status, adding a contextual menu, etc. macOS provides the developers of these applications with the ability to utilize a Finder Extension, or as Apple calls them in their dev note, Finder Sync Extensions. Typically, these applications sync files from a cloud server down to the local machine and vice-versa. There are a number of applications for macOS that utilize a Finder Extension. I stumbled upon this about a month ago as I was trying to automate something, so this may be relevant information to some. ![]() ![]() ![]() If an image is unneeded or unused, it may be deleted.
